Cyan Worlds is bringing back the beloved adventure titles Myst and its follow-up Riven with fresh remakes for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Microsoft Store. While Myst has seen life on Xbox before, these updated versions are tailored for contemporary systems, featuring compatibility with Sony’s PlayStation VR2.
PS5 players can experience both Myst and Riven in standard 2D or via the PS VR2. The non-VR iterations boast enhanced ray-traced reflections and a Performance Mode that boosts frame rates from 30fps to 60fps by adjusting visual settings. Additionally, both titles are optimized for the PlayStation’s Power Saver Mode and feature enhancements for the PS5 Pro, including improved textures, foliage, and shading details.
The Xbox iteration of Riven incorporates the upgrades Cyan Worlds initially developed for the Myst remake. It supports Xbox Play Anywhere, features ray-traced reflections, includes a Performance Mode similar to the PS5 version, and allows for 4K resolution with HDR on compatible screens.
Although Cyan Worlds has published various versions of Myst and Riven historically, their push to modernize these classics truly began in 2020 with the release of Myst for Meta Quest headsets. This version introduced a full 3D environment alongside other improvements. A non-VR PC and Mac version followed in 2021, with an iOS release in 2023. Development on the Riven remake began later, in 2024, launching simultaneously on PC, Mac, and Quest.
Both remakes will be priced at $35 each and launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Microsoft Store on May 19. Myst is available for purchase on Xbox Series X/S today.
