RGG’s ‘Stranger Than Heaven’ Launches This Winter on Digitio

Author: Digitio

Ryu Ga Gotoko has revealed that Stranger Than Heaven is scheduled for a winter release, according to the studio’s presentation at the Xbox showcase. Alongside the announcement, the developer unveiled a fresh trailer and additional information about the title, including the cast. The narrative centers on Makoto Daito, a youth of mixed Japanese and American heritage, whose adventure commences in 1915 when he boards a smuggler’s vessel captained by Snoop Dogg. Daito embarks on a voyage to Japan, driven by the belief that he will never find full acceptance in the United States.

The story unfolds over fifty years, tracing the main character’s path across Japan until he transforms into Makoto Tojo, the founder and inaugural chairman of the Tojo Clan. Set in 1915, the initial chapter takes place in Kokura, Fukuoka. By 1929, the setting shifts to Kure, Hiroshima, followed by Minami, Osaka in 1943. The narrative then moves to Atami, Shizuoka in 1951, and concludes in Shinjuku, Tokyo in 1965. Early in the trailer, an older Daito reflects on the establishment of the Tojo clan, a significant faction within RGG’s Yakuza franchise. Kazuma Kiryu, the central figure in many Yakuza titles, was a member of the Tojo Clan and eventually rose to become its fourth chairman.

Alongside Snoop Dogg, the cast features Yu Shirota as Makoto Daito and Bunta Sugawara, whose digital likeness appears in the game despite his passing more than a decade ago. As Gosu Gamers highlights, Sugawara was a renowned actor celebrated for playing the lead role in the Battles Without Honor and Humanity yakuza film series.

The trailer reveals that Stranger Than Heaven offers gameplay beyond combat. As Daito, players can compose music by arranging melodies and recruit singers and performers to form musical groups.
