Apple Says Developers May Drop Intel Support for Mac App Store Apps

Author: Digitio

Apple began informing developers today that universal macOS apps on the Mac App Store that require macOS 13 or later can now drop support for Intel-based Macs.

We’re letting you know that universal macOS apps on the Mac App Store requiring macOS 13 or later can now drop Intel support.

By removing Intel support, you can streamline development and reduce download and on‑device size.

To drop Intel support, set your build settings to “arm64” only, rebuild the app, and submit it to the Mac App Store.

Previously, developers had to include Intel compatibility, but now they may remove it. Intel users can still run the last version of the app that works on their hardware.

These updates follow macOS 27 Golden Gate’s decision to end Intel support entirely, and Apple previously said Rosetta 2, which translates Intel apps for Apple Silicon, will be retired after macOS 27 (except for some games).
