Apple’s new iPhone Handoff feature, which allows users to share one phone number between two iPhones, will cost T-Mobile customers $5 per month. Here’s what subscribers need to know.
Deutsche Telekom also requires a subscription
Earlier this year, during Apple’s WWDC keynote, the company briefly showed a slide packed with features and upgrades planned for iOS 27. One item on the list read, “Switch between two iPhone devices with the same phone number.”
At yesterday’s “Surprise and Shine” event, Apple’s VP of iPhone Product Marketing, Kaiann Drance, provided more information about the feature:
“iOS 27 improves connectivity with smarter transitions between cellular and Wi-Fi networks and introduces iPhone Handoff that lets you use a single phone number across two iPhones. The number is instantly active on whichever iPhone you pick up. iPhone Handoff launches with T-Mobile and Telekom Germany. Verizon and EE will add support by the end of the year with more carriers to follow.”

What Apple did not mention at the event, though, is that T-Mobile customers will have to pay $5 per month for the feature, as Stetson Doggett noted on X.
Apple’s support page for iPhone Handoff says that “carrier fees might apply when enrolling in iPhone Handoff” and tells customers to reach out to their carrier for additional details.
Digitio reviewed Deutsche Telekom’s announcement for the feature and found that the carrier does not charge a separate fee specifically for iPhone Handoff.
However, the feature is included as part of Deutsche Telekom’s MultiSIM offering. Adding a MultiSIM to an existing plan costs €6.95 per month, though some plans already include one at no extra charge.
