Many people have criticized Apple for losing some of its signature playfulness in design in recent years. A new example suggests that may be changing.
Hidden within the Settings app in iOS 27 is an Easter egg inspired by classic Mac OS: Clarus the Dogcow. Here’s how to uncover it.
iOS 27 adds a feature that lets users adjust the intensity of the Liquid Glass transparency effects, with a slider running from Clear to fully Tinted. You can find it on your iPhone by opening Settings > Appearance > Liquid Glass.
In this panel, Apple includes a mock website interface so you can preview how the Liquid Glass appearance changes as you move the slider. A small scrollable area contains text and photography from Apple Park.
The Easter egg appears when you scroll to the bottom and keep pulling upward with your finger. A photo of a Clarus the Dogcow figurine beside the Apple Park pond is revealed, along with rainbow text reading “Moof!”, the sound a dogcow makes, in the sample search field.
Type “Moof!” into Siri in Spotlight and it will even respond, “Nice dogcow.”
For anyone unfamiliar with the history, Clarus the Dogcow traces back to an icon designed by Susan Kare for the original Mac as a glyph for the Cairo font, the classic Mac’s icon font similar to Windows’ Dingbats. It has no practical purpose; it’s simply a bit of fun.
