Apple Readies Three Significant Retail Store Overhauls, Report Says

Apple is set to introduce substantial transformations to its retail locations, as reported by Bloomberg.

Among the most anticipated updates is the revival of the classic, standalone Genius Bars.

Big changes are on the horizon for Apple Stores.

Initially, Apple aims to redesign the “Avenue” zones inside its retail spaces — the sections adjacent to the main storefront where accessories and Apple-related services are showcased.

Gurman details that Apple will establish two additional Avenue zones focused on online order collections and “Today at Apple” workshops.

Currently, several locations feature a specific pickup counter and a spacious lounge area for “Today at Apple” classes. These facilities will be relocated to the sides of the store within 10-foot-wide compartments referred to internally as bays.

The Avenue bay designated for online pickups will be constructed using only wood materials. The upper section will showcase a discreet Apple emblem, while the lower portion will house locked compartments for holding collected orders. A nearby table will offer staff a workspace for coordinating the exchange process.

The specialized “Today at Apple” bay will feature a sizable screen along with locked storage units for instructors to keep their equipment.

The second major modification involves eliminating the massive video displays positioned at the rear of most stores. These screens are typically utilized for “Today at Apple” events and promotional content, but Apple plans to remove them during this overhaul.

The final change marks a return to “dedicated Genius Bars,” according to Gurman. Apple shifted away from the traditional Genius Bar layout toward the “Genius Grove” concept over ten years ago.

In numerous stores, Apple will swap out the video walls for dedicated Genius Bars, reintroducing a recognizable feature from a previous period.

The new design mirrors earlier versions of the Genius Bars but incorporates an entirely wooden aesthetic. Two different counter levels will ensure accessibility, while the wall behind the bar will include storage compartments and large posters showcasing new products.

Gurman states that Apple’s objective is to realign its stores toward “more conventional and functional retail, service, and fulfillment operations.”
