More than a year has passed since we asked whether Apple should let users select their own AI chatbot as an alternative to Siri AI. At the time, most readers supported the idea.
A developer examining the code in iOS 27 and macOS 27 has found that at least some users may eventually get that option.
In our earlier poll, two-thirds of respondents said they absolutely wanted the choice, while another 15% preferred it. Just 6% were strongly against it.
I had expected Apple to resist the change, likely citing its usual concerns about privacy and security when third-party apps gain access to the system. However, developer PDFU appears to have found evidence in iOS 27 and macOS 27 that Apple is preparing to support it.

The option cannot be activated yet. It is present in the code but remains disabled.
Digitio’s Take
If Apple makes this choice available worldwide, I would consider it a benefit for everyone, including the company. Users would be able to select the AI platform they prefer, and competition would encourage Apple to accelerate improvements to Siri AI.
That added momentum, combined with keeping as many Apple customers as possible satisfied, also makes the move beneficial for the iPhone maker.
Still, there is a strong chance the feature will initially be available only in the EU, where Apple has already been required to make several similar changes. It remains unclear whether users in the US and other regions will be able to use it.
