Following the reveal of its consumer-ready Spectacles in June, Snap has announced that pre-orders begin today, accompanied by a new 5G-enabled carrying case. The tech giant has also launched a proactive AI tool named Specs Intelligence, an AI-powered assistant that—despite bearing the Specs brand—will function on both iPhone and Mac devices, even without owning the glasses.
In collaboration with Verizon, Snap is introducing a cellular-enabled carrying case for Snap Specs, enabling users to operate their Specs outside their homes. This case can be purchased separately or bundled with the glasses for an extra $200, bringing the total to $2,395.
For Verizon subscribers, the cellular service for Specs will be priced at $10 per month, while non-Verizon users will pay $20 monthly. Internationally, Orange in France and EE in the UK will also provide cellular plans for Specs.
Specs are still scheduled to begin shipping to customers later this fall, although no specific date has been confirmed. Beginning October 1st, Snap will host a hands-on demo experience at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles for interested customers. Additional in-store demos will be available at Verizon locations at a later time.
Customers can place pre-orders for Specs today by submitting a $200 refundable deposit through the official site.
Specs Intelligence
Snap is stepping into the competitive arena of personal AI assistants with a new Specs Intelligence app tailored for iPhone and Mac. Although branded under Specs, ownership of the physical glasses is not required to access the app—though seamless integration is available when paired with Specs. According to the company:
It develops insights about your objectives, preferences, connections, and habits based on the apps and services you link, assisting you in concentrating on current priorities while advancing long-term ambitions.
Unlike traditional AI tools that await prompts, Specs Intelligence is engineered to predict when assistance might be needed and deliver relevant data and actions at the optimal time. When used with Specs AR glasses, it extends this personalized context into the real world by overlaying meaningful information directly into your field of vision.
The Specs Intelligence app becomes available starting today, with early access available via a waitlist on their website.
