iOS 27.2 beta 2 was released today and appears to include only a small number of changes for users. However, the beta’s code points to several upcoming features for Apple Music, CarPlay Ultra, and other Apple services.
Leakers uncover hidden iOS 27.2 features in beta code
Apple’s beta releases usually reveal changes in two ways: through features that users can try immediately and through code modifications that suggest future updates.
With iOS 27.2, users had access to several new features from the start, including a redesigned Health app, Apple TV user profiles, expanded Siri AI capabilities, and more.
But people skilled at inspecting the underlying code found additional developments.
For instance, X user pdfu discovered that Apple Music is preparing live countdowns for upcoming album releases.
Another pdfu discovery in the iOS 27.2 beta code relates to the Shortcuts app.
Shortcuts’ new ‘Describe a Shortcut’ feature appears set to gain support for actions from third-party applications.
A further notable finding from the iOS 27.2 code involves CarPlay Ultra.
Aaron Perris found references to a ‘Drive Mode Theme’ that can alter elements such as gauge style and color, while also syncing the vehicle’s ambient lighting.
CarPlay Ultra is currently available only on Aston Martin vehicles. The new theming options could suggest that Apple is preparing to expand support to another automaker.
We previously reported that iOS 27.2 would introduce a more thorough way to erase an iPhone. Beta 2 now uses the more descriptive name ‘Extended Erase,’ as Perris discovered.
Perris also found evidence that Apple may be developing a demo mode for users of its upcoming ‘HomePad’ smart home device.
