#1: OLED display finally arrives
The importance of display tech for a device that users stare at all day cannot be overstated. However, Macs have been behind other Apple products in providing the latest display innovations. iPhone has used OLED for years, and the iPad Pro introduced a dual OLED panel in 2024, something many Mac fans have coveted. With the upcoming MacBook Pro, OLED is finally arriving on a Mac. The new design is expected to deliver deeper blacks, better contrast, and possibly extend battery life, hoping to match the iPad’s impressive dual OLED performance.
#2: Touchscreen support comes to Mac
Apple has long maintained that Macs don’t require a touchscreen, even though rivals almost universally include one. Rumors now suggest the first Mac with touch capability is on its way. The forthcoming MacBook Pro will feature a touchscreen, and macOS 27 already contains clues that this addition is imminent. We anticipate additional software refinements to make touch feel intuitive on Mac. Even with touch support, macOS will stay focused on trackpad and keyboard usage. Touch will serve as an auxiliary input, complementing rather than replacing traditional methods for users already familiar with touchscreens on iPhones, iPads, and PCs.
#3: No more notch – hole‑punch camera replaces it
Apple’s 2021 MacBook Pro overhaul borrowed the notch design first seen on the iPhone, and the feature later appeared on the MacBook Air, becoming a hallmark of contemporary Mac aesthetics. The upcoming MacBook Pro, however, is rumored to abandon the notch in favor of a hole‑punch camera opening reminiscent of the iPhone Duo. macOS will also incorporate the Dynamic Island, allowing the camera cutout to blend smoothly into the Mac experience as it does on the iPhone. As someone who always thought the notch looked more out of place on a Mac than on an iPhone, I’m thrilled to see it go soon.
