Apple is set to launch its inaugural foldable iPhone, believed to be named iPhone Ultra, this month. The device is expected to have a 5.5-inch outer screen and a 7.6-inch inner screen. Samsung recently released the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in July, which features identical screen dimensions. While it’s debatable if Samsung created the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to counter the iPhone Ultra, the device provides an early glimpse into how the iPhone Ultra might feel in practice. Early reviewers of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 have shared numerous comparison photos on Twitter. Given the similar dimensions between the iPhone Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 8, these images offer a good indication of the iPhone Ultra’s actual appearance and feel. Ray Wong shared several comparisons of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with the older iPad mini, emphasizing that it provides an iPad mini-sized display in a pocket-friendly design, albeit with slimmer bezels. Additionally, enthusiast Shishir posted images comparing the iPhone 13 mini to the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The iPhone 13 mini is a bit taller, but both are compact. For those who miss the iPhone mini, the iPhone Ultra might offer a similar experience. In my opinion, viewing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 recently increased my anticipation for the iPhone Ultra. The two devices are expected to have almost the same physical design, with the iPhone Ultra featuring curved corners. This could be our best preview of Apple’s upcoming release in September. Furthermore, dummy model images are available for further comparisons. Here are my top recommendations for Apple accessories. Follow Michael on X/Twitter, Bluesky, and Instagram.
