After a long period of anticipation, we finally have a concrete launch date for Mina the Hollower. Yacht Club Games will bring this new title to Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on May 29, priced at $20. This fits into the spring launch window the team previously mentioned.

Mina the Hollower is an action-adventure title boasting an 8-bit style reminiscent of Game Boy Color classics. Yacht Club highlights its 60fps combat and a “world full of mystery and horror.” The developers appear to have taken cues from iconic The Legend of Zelda and Castlevania entries.

Players control a mouse named Mina, who wields a whip and various other tools to defeat enemies. Mina also possesses the ability to dig underground over short distances, allowing her to traverse gaps and gain brief invincibility.

Yacht Club, known for Shovel Knight, originally aimed to release Mina the Hollower on Halloween (or perhaps Hollow-een?) last year. However, the team ultimately pushed back the release “to apply some final polish and balancing to make the game truly shine.”

Mina the Hollower underwent six years of development, a period that saw Yacht Club reduce its staff after depleting much of its funding. Studio head and cofounder Sean Velasco has called the game’s success a “make-or-break” moment for the company. “If we sold 500,000 copies, then we would be golden,” he told Bloomberg in December. “If we sold even 200,000, that would be really, really great. If we sold, like, 100,000, that’s not so good.”
