In just a few days, Apple is expected to reveal its highly anticipated new range of Home devices. The lineup features a refreshed HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, an all-new smart home hub dubbed ‘HomeView’, plus a fresh collection of smart home accessories developed with LG. Here’s what’s coming with the HomePod mini 2.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the updated HomePod mini will pack the S10 chip, a significant jump from the current S5 processor. While not the absolute latest silicon, it represents a major generational leap.
Thanks to the S10 chip, the HomePod mini will debut Siri AI capabilities — a first for Apple’s Home ecosystem. It will also “extend” your HomeView across your home, enabling voice commands and music playback to sync seamlessly with your HomeView. Naturally, the revised Apple TV and HomeView will support Siri AI as well.
The new HomePod mini arrives in an expanded color palette, adding pink, green, and blue alongside the classic midnight and white options.
Beyond the S10, the HomePod mini 2 is slated to include Apple’s N1 networking chip for Thread and Matter radio duties, plus Wi-Fi 7 support. The current model only offers Wi-Fi 4.
Pricing and release date
While exact pricing remains unconfirmed, it’s worth noting the HomePod mini’s price rose from $99 to $129 in June during Apple’s memory-related price adjustments. I anticipate pricing will hold steady, as Apple likely factored in the upcoming hardware when setting that price. Time will tell.
